Happy World Book Day!

As you might remember from the last post, we just moved. Now you might be wondering - What's the connection between World Book Day and moving?

Let me tell you. Both the boyfriend and I are avid readers. We don't read as much as we did when we were still little ones and had nothing to worry about but school, but we still do like to read. During our 2 1/2 weeks of holidays I read 6 books (a big thanks to all the hostels who have all these books standing around for swapping or just borrowing while I'm in the hostel (I can't stand to leave my books behind...)) - oh, and plus our guidebook of course, but I wouldn't "really" count that. This year I remember reading 20 books. Books (or stationery, you got me...) are one of the best gifts you could give me. I don't even want to think about how much money I spent on books in my life already - if I'd have to guess, I'd say at least... - no, I won't tell you ;-) But I will say that the two boards in the middle are loaded with more than 350 € worth of books - and I would spend it all again :)

So - I still didn't mention the move, did I? Well, having lots of books means you have to carry all of them down five floors and up five floors again. Having lots of books means that you notice you really need a new shelf when the one you got two and a half years ago is almost full even before you unpacked all of your books.

And there you have your connection between books and our move. I love our books, but sometimes I wish they'd be lighter. Would I rather read them on an e-reader? I don't think so. Do I want books to be celebrated? You bet I do!

Did you know that today was World Book Day?

Alles Liebe,
Caddi

  1. In England, World Nook Day is celebrated on the first Thursday in March. Isn't it weird that it ends up being called World, instead of a selected few countries.

    1. I didn't know that! I supposed that it was worldwide because the UNESCO organizes it - but now that I think about it, we have another book day in May here in Germany.
I just checked on the English Wikipedia site, because I was interested and it says: "In the United Kingdom, World Book Day is held annually on the first Thursday in March, to avoid the established international 23 April date due to clashes with Easter school holidays, and the fact that it is also the National Saint's Day of England, St George's Day."
      Take care!

  2. What a beautiful bookshelf! I do need a new one as well, I'm starting to pile my books horizontally in order to use all the space, and that's bad. I hope you celebrate today by reading on your favorite place. :)

    1. Haha we did the same thing actually in the last flat! We now store our university books in a different shelf, so I hope we won't need to resort to that too soon... :)

  3. I didn't know about book day! But it's really a great idea to celebrate books, for sure! I'm an avid reader as well, and even though I haven't read all the books on my bookshelves, I keep on buying more... I can't resist an appealing cover!
By the way, it's nice to see you around again, Caddi! :)

  4. Cool! Here in Catalonia (Spain) we celebrate the World Book Day too, but based in the legend of St. George :) Girls get roses from guys and guys get a book from girls (but most of people just buy books from themselves, haha). I bought myself 4 books this year lol, but as one of my teachers said... "You never spent too much money on books!" :)
