Postcards from around the World # 4 - Ireland

Yet another postcard I got from a family member - though a more distant one this time! My cousin spent about a month in Ireland this summer, at first travelling with a friend, then travelling solo, later I think she worked a bit as well and she just came back a few days ago. Lucky her! Apparently she had loads of fun and a lot of stuff to do - she told me she went to sit in the garden of a monastery to write postcards, because she didn't have a quiet minute to do so beforehand.

Have you ever been to Ireland?

Fast and pretty mail from Russia!

On Friday I got a letter from Maria in Russia - I had written her in early spring and had asked if spring already arrived in Russia by the time she got the letter, but it travelled a long time, so now that she responded, she already told me about the late summer and the early fall. She expressed the fear that her letter might take very long to arrive as well, and included a tea to warm up while reading her letter in November, but this time the letter was really fast! The postage stamps have the date of September 12th, and I got it on September 20th, so only around a week for a letter from Russia! I won't complain about that though :)

The letter was really pretty, it featured many stamps - among them, this beauty! Isn't it lovely? It was issued almost ten years ago, so I guess I'm lucky that I got to see it :) Thanks for choosing such great stamps Maria, I love them! Keep doing so ;-)

Another detail of the letter: This airmail sticker, which says "Luftpost" ("airmail" in German) - I love it!

Did you receive any outstanding mail in the last time? And why was it outstanding?

Postcards from around the World # 3 - Cape Verde

Do you want to hear about yet another immediate family member who never forgets to send a postcard when on a trip?
My older brother and his girlfriend went to Boa Vista for two weeks this summer and sent me this postcard, which took about five to six weeks to get here! Boa Vista is one of the islands of Cape Verde, located in the central Atlantic Ocean, a few hundred kilometers off the coast of western Africa. He tells that the landscape seems like that of a desert, with lots of sand and dunes. Quite warm as well.

My brother knows that I collect stamps, so he bought an extra stamp to bring it home for me as a small souvenir :)

Have you ever been to an island country like the one of Cape Verde?

Postcards from around the World # 2 - Austria

Last week I talked about my mother sending me things in the mail - I have to be fair here, my father does so as well! He went to Austria in the end of August and knows me well enough to remember to send me a postcard whenever he's on a trip. He also sends me a small package every month or so - usually with a small book, sometimes a scarf - I guess you really can say that my parents are great in sending mail every now and then!

Anyway, he was in Salzburg and went to the opera at night - which seems to be a thing in Austria. The Mirabellgarten is the park of the Palace Mirabell, which was built in 1606 by Prince-Archbishop for his mistress. He also managed to elevate her and her (their?) 15 children to hereditary peerage. The Palace as well as the gardens are part of the UNESCO world heritage of the historic centre of Salzburg.

Do you keep in touch with your family through the mail?

Postcards from around the World # 1 - Denmark

Recently I was rummaging around in a box of old trinkets looking for something that had to be in there - I came across old letters, photos, pressed flowers, tickets and also a few postcards.
I am quite happy to say that I can always count on my mother to send me something in the mail - be it a quick postcard or a care package.
As some of you know, I spent quite some time abroad during my youth - and I happened to come across a postcard I got while in Chile. My mother wrote a message on maybe half of the postcard, the rest is filled with signatures from my parents, two sets of aunts and uncles, my grandparents as well as five cousins, three of whom were younger than 7 I believe - which caused quite big signatures as you can imagine. I love that I have a signed postcard of all of them!
They were celebrating a birthday in Denmark, on an island where I spent some summers of my childhood as well. Aren't postcards a great way to bring back memories?

A family postcard
I love these stamps!

Do you still have postcards which date a few years back? And how long to you plan to keep them for?

Caddi

Malaysian air mail labels

I got this lovely envelope last week for a swap on swap-bot - I already loved how it looked on the outside! An envelope decorated with tape, various stamps and a clear postage mark, a pretty airmail label and my address written in a fancy way? My mailbox was happy!
Inside the sender included nice words on a very cute notecard, the airmail labels the swap called for (I love these so much! I'm going to have a hard time using them I think - aren't they amazing?) as well as some used stamps and washi tape samples for me to enjoy!
Some swappers on swap-bot really do send amazing mail :)
Have a fantastic September everybody!
